The deceased, identified as Srushti Sharma from J.K. Pur area, had been living in Lalpur for the past six months while interning at Mahindra & Mahindra Tractors.
Lalpur, Nov 7: A 23-year-old woman from Odisha’s Rayagada district was brutally murdered in Lalpur, Uttarakhand. The body was found dumped in a nearby river.
The deceased, identified as Srushti Sharma from J.K. Pur area of Odisha’s Rayagada district, had been living in Lalpur for the past six months and was interning at Mahindra & Mahindra Tractors.
According to reports, Srushti had been staying in a rented room at the residence of one Kameshwar Singh. The incident came to light when Srushti’s family were unable to reach her on Tuesday. Following this, they travelled to Lalpur on Wednesday.
After failing to locate her, Srushti’s family filed a missing report with the local police.
Taking note of the reports, police registered a case and initiated a probe.
During investigation, police detained Amit Kumar, the son of the house owner, who eventually admitted to killing Srushti and disposing of her body in the Badore River after tying it with bricks and stones.
Lalpur police confirmed that Amit confessed to the murder during interrogation.Police later recovered the body from the river and are currently taken Amit Kumar in custody for further questioning.
The motive behind the murder remains unclear. Srushti’s family has now reached Uttarakhand but has not made any public statements.
