Amrut Distilleries' latest release combines coffee-seasoned casks with Indian single malt in a limited-edition expression.
Amrut Distilleries has introduced CaféX, an Indian Single Malt matured in casks seasoned with coffee beans from the historic Harley Estate in Sakaleshpur, Karnataka. Developed using coffee-seasoned casks, the whisky brings together the state’s whisky-making and coffee-growing traditions.
A new approach to whisky maturation
Whisky maturation has traditionally relied on oak, wine, sherry, port and spirit casks. With CaféX, Amrut Distilleries explores a different approach by using casks seasoned with coffee beans from Karnataka’s Harley Estate. The release joins the company’s portfolio of experimental single malts, alongside expressions such as Naarangi, Spectrum and Herald, which have focused on alternative maturation techniques and flavour profiles.
Collaboration with Harley Estate
Developed in collaboration with the Harley Estate, amidst the mist-covered hills of Sakaleshpur, CaféX celebrates two of Karnataka’s greatest gifts to the world—its internationally acclaimed single malt whisky and its exceptional coffee. Carefully selected coffee beans were used to season specially prepared casks, creating an entirely new canvas upon which Amrut’s award-winning single malt could evolve.
Limited edition release
Inspired by the pristine landscapes of the Western Ghats, CaféX is presented in a striking white and emerald-green pack that reflects the purity of its origins and the boldness of its innovation. Limited to just 2,400 bottles worldwide, CaféX is yet another milestone in Amrut’s journey of redefining Indian single malt and reinforcing its position as one of the world’s most innovative whisky makers.
Leadership comments
Rakshit N. Jagdale, Managing Director, Amrut Distilleries, commented on the release, saying: “CaféX is a celebration of two things India does exceptionally well—crafting world-class single malt and growing exceptional coffee. Bringing them together through an innovative approach to cask maturation reflects our enduring commitment to pushing the boundaries of whisky making while remaining deeply rooted in our heritage. At Amrut, innovation is not an occasional achievement; it is part of our DNA and ethos.”
Purnesh, Owner of Harley Estate comments “At Harley Estate, we explore how time, wood, and provenance shape flavor. Partnering with Amrut gave us access to their award-winning whisky barrels — casks of incredible depth that don’t just impart oak and spice, but layers of vanilla, fruit, and that signature Amrut warmth. Ageing our estate-grown specialty coffee in them bridges two worlds of Indian craft, creating a bold, complex cup unlike anything we’ve processed before — the soul of Indian whisky meets Harley Estate specialty coffee, to give us our most coveted whisky barrel-aged coffee.”
Speaking on the rarity and exclusivity of the release Ashok Chokalingam, COO and Master Distiller comments “This is a landmark bottling. To encounter a distinct jalapeño and capsicum profile within a single malt is an extreme rarity. The ability of the spirit to integrate these savory, vegetal notes with the richness of mocha and vanilla cream—all while maintaining such poise—marks this as a “unicorn” expression, destined for the most discerning collections.”
