Vande Bharat Sleeper trains are ready in Bengaluru, but the Railway Board has yet to decide their routes and deployment plans.

Vande Bharat Sleeper train: Two Vande Bharat Sleeper trains are currently available in Bengaluru, while the Railway Board is yet to finalise the routes on which they will operate. Developed by BEML using technology from Chennai-based Integral Coach Factory (ICF), the orange-and-grey coloured trains have been undergoing trials in multiple phases.

The first Vande Bharat Sleeper service was launched in January 2026 and runs between Howrah and Kamakhya (Guwahati). It has reduced travel time between the two cities by up to six hours.

Speaking to Indianexpress.com, Dharmendra Tewari, Additional Director General (Public Relations) of Railway Board said two Vande Bharat Sleeper rakes are available in the Bengaluru division. He added that the Railway Board is yet to allot the two trains to any zone.

Vande Bharat Sleeper to connect Bengaluru and Mumbai

In May, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that a new Vande Bharat Sleeper train between Bengaluru and Mumbai would start soon. Bengaluru railway station comes under the South Western Railway (SWR) zone, while Mumbai falls under the Central Railway (CR) zone.

“Long-pending demands of South and North Karnataka are now being fulfilled. Vande Bharat Sleeper service between Bengaluru and Mumbai is expected to start soon,” Vaishnaw said.The introduction of Vande Bharat Sleeper service is likely to further improve long-distance overnight travel on the route while enhancing passenger comfort and overall journey experience.
